circle of life
In life, everything is connected — even with death. for this reason, we call it the circle of life.
for this project, I used skulls together with flowers, leaves, and plants as symbols of this connection. it’s essence is both scientific and poetic: a reflection on human impact on the planet. the sequence follows the line of evolution — from the sea sponge, one of the earliest forms of life, to the arrival of the human race. along the way, it acknowledges how many species have already vanished, and how many more are at risk.
we are now responsible for the end of so many forms of life.
I also included the four natural elements in each image: water and the earth, givers of life; the food chain; the wind that spreads seeds; the rainforests, now endangered. the series concludes with two possible futures. each of us must choose — because, in the end:
it is simply our choice.
